RVC Honorary Fellow Dr Peter Rossdale
receives equine welfare award
In September, Dr Peter Rossdale, who graduated from the RVC in 1952 and is an RVC Honorary Fellow, was awarded the BEVA
Equine Welfare Award at the BEVA Congress, for championing the cause of equine welfare through continuing education within the profession.
Peter has been integral in establishing equine perinatology as a scientific discipline and later in his career was editor of the Equine Veterinary Journal whilst also launching Equine Veterinary Education.
Although now retired, he is involved in writing and completing a text entitled “Knowing that we know: the burden
of human consciousness”. This is based upon the comment by the Jesuit Philosopher Thielard de Chardin that “animals know but man knows that he knows”, which gives us the benefits and deficits of consciousness!
Huge congratulations Peter on the award!

Dr Graham Milligan, Vice Principal Clinical Affairs retires
Graham has overseen
our clinical services for more than 10 years and their ongoing success is
testament to his hard work, dedication and attention to fiscal detail; our hospitals are both world-leading clinical centres of excellence and effective teaching and learning hubs for our undergraduate and postgraduate
students. In October, Graham spoke movingly about his time at the RVC, and the important role the College’s clinical research programme plays in advancing understanding of animal and human disease. His light hearted, reflective wit and acute observations were the high points of the tea party held at the Hawkshead Campus.
