Chantil is a PhD student in the Veterinary Epidemiology, Economics and Public Health research centre. Her research focusses on the behaviour of horse owners and the implementation of scientific research into every day horse care.
Chantil has a BSc honours degree in Human Biology & Infectious Diseases from the University of Salford. After graduating in 2006, she worked for Public Health England as an epidemiologist in public health for over 10 years, specialising in gastro-intestinal and vaccine preventable diseases. Studying part-time, she received her Master’s in Epidemiology in 2011 from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
In 2016 she successfully completed the UK Field Epidemiology Training Programme (FETP), based in the National Surveillance Centre of Public Health England, conducting research on a number of areas including outbreak investigations, TB and diphtheria surveillance and the childhood influenza vaccination programme.
Chantil’s is currently undertaking mixed methods research into the behaviour of horse owners and carers in order to understand the drivers and barriers of implementing findings from scientific research into day-to-day horse care.
She is using laminitis as an exemplar for this research but hopes that her findings will be applicable to wider horse welfare issues.
